Case 14 · Online fraud

Fake Pix scam

Edited receipts, scheduled-then-cancelled Pix payments and fraudulent refund requests.

What it is

Pix is Brazil’s instant payment system. The most common variations: the buyer sends an edited receipt for a Pix that never came in; schedules a Pix and cancels it after receiving the product; or someone says they sent a Pix by mistake and asks for it to be returned to a different account. In every case, the money does not exist or goes back to the scammer.

How it works

  1. We check the receipt you got and your account statement.
  2. We identify the Pix key and the institutions involved.
  3. We guide the refund request through the MED (Pix Special Refund Mechanism) with your bank.
  4. We gather the evidence in a report for the police report and a possible lawsuit.

What we will need from you

  • The Pix receipt you received (original file or screenshot)
  • Your account statement for the period
  • Pix key, name and bank shown in the transaction
  • The conversation with the person (if it was on WhatsApp, use the "Export chat" option; on other platforms, screenshots)
  • Date, time and amount
  • Your bank’s case number, if you have already opened one
  • Boletim de ocorrência (police report), if you have already filed one

We never ask for passwords, verification codes or access to your accounts.
