Case 12 · Online fraud

Fake auction scam

Fake auction websites that sell vehicles and goods that do not exist.

What it is

Websites that look very much like real auctioneers’ sites advertise cars, motorcycles and property below market price. After you win the bid, they ask for quick payment by Pix or boleto to secure the lot. The item is never delivered and the site disappears or changes address. They often use the name and registration of real auctioneers.

How it works

  1. We analyze the site, the lot and the documents you received.
  2. We check the domain, the records and who received the money.
  3. We compare it with official auctioneers and other victims of the same site.
  4. We prepare a report for the police and the recovery measures.

What we will need from you

  • Website address and screenshots of the lot pages
  • Auction notice, contract or bid confirmation you received
  • Payment receipts (Pix, boleto or TED bank transfer)
  • Emails and messages exchanged with the supposed auctioneer
  • Company name and registration number shown on the site or on the boleto
  • Date of the winning bid and amounts paid
  • Boletim de ocorrência (police report), if you have already filed one

We never ask for passwords, verification codes or access to your accounts.
