Scheduled and cancelled Pix: the receipt that is worth nothing

The buyer shows a genuine Pix receipt, but the payment was only scheduled and was cancelled after delivery.

You sell a product online and the buyer immediately sends a Pix receipt. The document looks genuine, with the amount, the date and your name. Feeling confident, you hand over the product or ship the order.

What the receipt does not make clear is that the Pix was only scheduled for another day. After receiving the product, the scammer cancels the scheduled payment and the money never reaches your account. There are also versions with edited receipts for transfers that never existed.

The scam counts on the rush to close the sale and on the habit of looking only at the receipt without checking the statement.

How to protect yourself

  1. Only hand over the product after you see the money in your account statement, not just on the receipt.
  2. Read the receipt carefully: words like “agendamento” or “agendado” (scheduled) mean the money has not left yet.
  3. Be suspicious of buyers in a big hurry or who want to send someone to pick up the product right away.
  4. Keep the conversation, the receipt you received and the buyer’s details.
